Program Director, Kenya



Location: Kenya

Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Provide strategic program guidance and updates to the senior country management team on regular basis.
  • Responsible for strategic management of all the programs implemented by GAIN in Kenya and compliance to donor and government standards.
  • Collaborates with the Country Manager, Initiative Director and Portfolio Management and Delivery team on program strategy, communications and implementation of all project components including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants.
  • Responsible for timely convening, facilitation and associated documentation of project  in consultation with the implementing team and take effective decision on behalf of the Country manager.
  • Collaborates with Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) team within the country and in HQs to develop a framework to closely monitor program impact and oversee the successful implementation of the research to populate the learning agenda.
  • Responsible for overall reporting of the program progress reports, quarterly budget and accurate, timely management of the funds, with support from the implementing and team and executing agencies.
  • Visits the field regularly to ensure that project progress is on track and risk mitigation plan is up to date.

Policy and Advocacy
  • Provide guidance to policy advocacy agenda for GAIN.
  • Ensures the timely drafting and execution of partnership agreements with key stakeholders and executing agencies.
  • Lead in action plans to the policy mapping report and guide on linkages and networking.

Experience
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in a leadership / management position, especially in a senior management position within international development. 
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing multi-disciplinary teams Strong understanding of public health and community development in general.
  • Experience of delivering an integrated nutrition / IYCN program highly desirable. 
  • Ability to fit in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Experience working in a public/private partnership environment highly desirable.
  • Private Sector experience highly desirable.

Education
  • First or higher Degree in health, food science, social science, nutrition, business administration, or a suitable equivalent is required.

Other requirements
  • A willingness and ability to travel widely in the country
