Regional Director (West Africa Region) 12-month fixed
term contract
Location: Regional Office in Senegal or Ghana or UK with extensive travel
Salary: £60,000 per annum

Working with several partners and within the existing policy
framework, the Regional Director will provide overall leadership to the Region,
developing and delivering against the Regional SIM Card and building an
effective and collaborative team.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Strategic development providing ongoing strategic thinking and research into the long term development of the region, including opportunities for further expansion into new countries, or exits from existing ones. Keeping abreast of current development trend in order to ensure that Sightsavers’ practices and policies are properly informed by best practice and thinking.
2. Team building: Line manage the Country Directors and direct reports within the region, providing coaching to help improve their performance, identifying appropriate regional training programmes; and support the Director of Finance and Performance in managing the move to a more country-led structure.
3. Country office support and monitoring: providing support to the Country Directors with the preparation and implementation of their strategic and funding plans, developing and implementing high quality programmes and ensuring best practice is shared across the regions.
4. Regional programmes: overseeing the development and management on any region-wide programmes or projects that are not linked to a particular country.
5. External representation as appropriate: to Governments, other partners and other agencies working closely with the Director of Global Advocacy.
6. Global working: ensuring that the work developed, policies and processes can be effectively implemented through our programme country offices.

Significant experience of working at management level within
the region and within the development sector is required, as is experience of
financial management and control in a multi-country environment. Experience in
strategic planning and implementation and multi-function management is
necessary. The ideal candidate must be able to travel extensively, especially
within the West Africa region. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
