Multi Country Project Leader Renewable Energy
-PicoPV4Africa programme (solar distribution)

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has worked in Burkina Faso since 1970.
The emphasis of its work is on poverty alleviation focusses
on three sectors: Agriculture, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) and
Renewable Energy through multidisciplinary interventions across the country.
The SNV Renewable Energy (RE) sector has one overarching aim
to boost low carbon pro poor development while promoting energy efficiency and
facilitating access to sustainable, clean and reliable energy sources for
households and small enterprises and the development of a vibrant renewable
energy sector with an adequate enabling environment.
In pursuing this aim, SNV has expanded the range of RE
technologies and strengthened its market-based approach in Asia, African and
Latin America. This expansion will continue to focus on Renewable Energy
resources targeting 3 interventions areas for domestic and productive use:
clean cooking, lighting and communication and agricultural processing. As such
SNV Burkina Faso is working with renewable energy technologies such as Biogas
(for domestic and productive use), Improved cook stoves (ICS) and fuels, Waste
to Energy (gasification) and Off Grid Solar.
Under the broad banner of RE, SNV also situates its rapidly
growing work in REDD+ and REAP and climate financing mechanisms. While this may
be seen as not ‘strictly’ RE, it sits together with Climate Smart Agriculture
and the rest of SNV’s work in RE, to demonstrate a strong commitment to
environmental sustainability and climate change while boosting economic
development.
We are looking for an experienced senior professional with
BoP marketing expertise with a focus on renewable energy (picoPV units and/or
rural electrification) who can lead the expansion and especially the innovation
of SNV’s RE practice and portfolio across SNV countries in Africa.
The scope of responsibility includes initially leading,
managing, advising and supporting the PicoPV4Africa programme and its
activities and advisors in Burkina Faso, Niger, Uganda and the Democratic
Republic of Congo.
The Programme Leader will report to the Country Sector Leader
(CSL) RE of Burkina Faso and will sign a service level agreement with the other
country sector leaders of the other SNV countries.
Responsibilities
The Programme Leader will be based in Burkina Faso and
travel and support the different countries to work with the country teams,
distributors, retailers, brands and relevant stakeholders to build internal
expertise and create sustainable business models. He/she will be in charge of
overall project oversight and alignment between the different countries.
- Overall
programme lead and management of the PicoPV4Africa programme during 2014
and 2015;
- Support
the project teams of Burkina Faso, Niger, Uganda and DRC on picoPV last
mile distribution;
- Support
to update market, donor and marketing intelligence for picoPV distribution
models;
- Lead,
manage and identify fundable opportunities for programming in picoPV
distribution, beyond SNV’s
current portfolio, taking national contexts and poverty strategies into consideration; - Support
business development/fund raising activities for the SNV RE sector;
- Support
CSLs and their teams to fully explore fundable opportunities for expanding
their current solar/picoPV
portfolios and assess what it would take to exploit these opportunities, bearing in mind cross-country synergies; - Coaches
staff, consultants and Local Capacity Builders;
- Develop
concepts for innovative approaches/technologies for solar/picoPV
distribution.
Candidate profile
- Advanced
qualification and expertise in areas relevant to Renewable Energy,
Marketing, Sales, Off grid solar, rural electrification, with a minimum of
10 years of experience,
preferably in Africa. - Proven
track record business development and relationship management, preferable
in the private sector in BoP markets and distribution models.
- Verifiable
Knowledge and Programme Development track record.
- Existing
network with private sector, donors and knowledge partners in the solar
sector, possibly some years
in the distribution and sales of the solar picoPV sector. - Ability
to work in teams and build capacity of senior workforce by providing
strategic advisory services.
- Dynamic,
entrepreneurial, out-going, leadership and coaching skills with a client
and team oriented attitude.
- Strong
writing skills with excellent communication skills in English (SNV’s
corporate language) and French (a must).
Contract Duration: 2 years (until 31 December 2015)
