ILRI vacancy: Stores Supervisor

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, Vietnam) and East Asia (China).

THE POSITION
ILRI seeks to recruit a competent Stores Supervisor who will be responsible to manage the overall stores activity and supervise the store assistants’ day to day activity. He/she will work as a member of Supply Chain unit and will be based in Addis Ababa., The incumbent, in collaboration with the Supply chain Manager will contribute to effective and efficient stores management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinates and Maintains inventory and supplies by receiving, storing, and delivering items; securing warehouse; supervising staff;
  • Maintains storage area by effective utilization of  floor space and recommending improvements;
  • Coordinates and Maintains inventory by conducting periodic and ad-hoc physical counts; reconciling variances; inputting data;
  • Arranges for custom clearance of imported items and other goods by air freight or sea freight via Djibouti port;
  • Checks and approves prepared ‘Goods Receiving Notes’ for purchased goods received into Main Store; and arranges for prompt delivery of ‘Non-Stock’ items to requisitioning cost centers against their counter signature on the ‘Good Receiving Notes’ ;
  • Ensures established store and inventory control policies and procedures are adopted and followed by   staffs
  • Assists the Supply Chain Manager in Asset disposal process by coordinating the ‘Asset Disposal ’ in accordance with ILRI’s established policies, procedures and guidelines about ‘Disposal of Property’;
  • Establishment of minimum, maximum and re-order level of stock items  for  fast moving and critical items;
  • Maintains and Follows up the institute insurance coverage;
  • Maintains systematic and up-date records of fixed assets, disposal items and stock items.
Minimum Requirements:
Education
  • BA degree in Supplies Management from a recognized college or higher education institute and/or university degree in Business Management or related field.
Experience
  • Relevant work experience in materials management (supplies) of about 4 years
Skills
  • Good knowledge of supplies management and stores operation, (ii) good organizational skills, (iii) good computer skills, (iv) general knowledge of insurance and (v) license to drive light vehicles
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
Training
  • Short term advanced course in supplies management would be desirable
Job level:
  • This position is job Grade 2B.
Monthly Base Salary:     Birr 8,208 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment:  This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Addis Ababa campus.  Initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.

The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.  Dining and sports facilities are located on site.
