Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

Program Summary:

International Medical Corps is providing emergency medical relief to over 400,000 beneficiaries annually in Darfur. Our sixteen primary care clinics provide essential health services, including disease treatment and prevention, reproductive health care, health education, immunization, child health care and surveillance, and referrals to emergency and secondary treatment.

Throughout all of our programs, we emphasize education and training, ensuring continuity of care and helping communities to build lasting medical systems.

Job Summary:

The Medical Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to manage the day-to-day activities of the medical program and the training of the health staff, to provide medical expertise and guidance for the medical staff, to ensure regular and adequate drug supplies for all sites, to monitor and evaluate medical activities and to ensure the highest standards of care within the medical program.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK:
-Improve the quality of the program through priority setting, time bound work plan and supervisory check list.
-Provide technical support to the health team in setting up and implementing activities including installation of monitoring and evaluation indicators and mechanisms as per the IMC Health Information System (HIS)
-Actively participate in program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
-Provide adequate analysis of program indicators on a monthly basis
-Participate in the writing of timely and accurate donor proposals and reports in collaboration with the Program Director and M and E coordinator
-Ensure effective and efficient financial utilization as per the program objectives and time frame
-Actively participate in the management and referral of patients based on the national protocol
-Improve the health information management system
-Prepare weekly, monthly and annual plans
-Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and annual data and reports to his line manager and other relevant agencies
-Actively participate in the identification and management of any disaster
-Ensure the community based activities such as EPI, nutrition screening, health education and defaulter tracing are done properly
-Ensure appropriate drugs and medical equipment are ordered and used in a timely fashion
-Ensure that medical supplies needed by programs under his/her supervision are properly managed in collaboration with medical storekeeper and logistics staff
-Undertake/ assist in need assessment and surveys as necessary
-Identify training needs amongst the team and design and implement capacity building activities
-Actively participate in human resource management such as induction, motivation , Recruitment and coaching
-Monitor health staff performance through regular appraisals
-Represent IMC at locality and state level and attend relevant meetings with stakeholder
-Perform other relevant activities as per the recommendation of his line manager

Qualifications:
- The Degree of Doctor of Medicine. Having advanced degree in public health or other specialty is an advantage
- Languages – working knowledge of English. Arabic will be an asset
- Good report rewriting skills
- Previous management and leadership experience in humanitarian emergency set-ups
- Very good interpersonal skills and team player
- Advanced knowledge of medical sciences and primary health care
- Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office, Email, EXCEL – and other computer based systems
- Ability and willingness to manage projects in resource-limited hardship areas
