PURPOSE OF POSITION:

World Vision Ethiopia, WVE seeks a Deputy Chief of Party for a four-year USAID-funded Reading for Ethiopia’s Achievement Developed (READ) Community Outreach Project in Ethiopia to help primary school students learn to read and write. The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will be responsible for all programmatic aspects of the program as well as for supporting the Chief of Party in managing and overseeing the program. The DCOP is responsible for ensuring that the project is implemented in accordance with the cooperative agreement, and all applicable USAID and USG regulations. The DCOP should have relevant experience working in human capacity development, civil society strengthening, and primary education as well as have demonstrated knowledge of Ethiopia’s education sector structure, planning, and management

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Technical support and leadership to READ technical staff, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, and Monitoring and Evaluation to ensure that high quality program activities are implemented and accomplished on a timely basis
  • Support the Chief of Party in managing and overseeing the program
  • Provide financial and technical management to ensure the best use of resources
  • Link and maintain solid cooperation and collaboration with partner organizations and government officials
  • Supervise the activity development of the program
  • Manage and mentor staff
  • Ensure timely reporting of all sub-grantees and monitoring structures
  • Proven ability in promoting and collaborating with multi-level stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality reporting and communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team
  • Serve as the Deputy Chief of Party and a point of contact for current information about activities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:
  • Master’s degree required
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working on projects in a related role and with demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Experience working in human capacity development, civil society strengthening, and primary education
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning capabilities;
  • Experience managing large teams and working with local and international partners

Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of relevant national languages preferred
