Technical Adviser (Infant and Young Child Feeding)

The role
Under the general direction and guidance of the Somalia Nutrition Consortium Manager, lead on IYCF strategy development and ensure all IYCF programming in the Somalia Nutrition Consortium locations are of excellent technical quality, and contribute significantly to the Consortium's strategic objectives, national/global learning and advocacy. The IYCF Advisor is expected to lead IYCF strategy development and provide technical advice and support to project staff to ensure programming objectives are successfully achieved. The IYCF Adviser must be willing to embrace a child rights programming approach and represent the Somalia Nutrition Consortium in national fora and working groups.

Qualifications and experience
* Nutrition professional with a Master Degree in nutrition or equivalent. * Significant experience and a track record of success in delivering high quality IYCF programmes * Experience of designing behaviour change strategies for IYCF with PD Health and/or TIPS experience an advantage. * Experience of designing, implementing and analysing qualitative and quantitative research on IYCF practices * Significant professional experience, at least 3 years, of working at a senior advisory level in nutrition in the development sector. Experience in Somalia an advantage. * Knowledge of and commitment to the Operational Guidance on IFE. * Demonstrable experience of representing and advocating for IYCF at a high level. * Demonstrated experience of successfully building the capacity of national staff and partners with willingness to adopt participatory and consultative approaches. * Experience with nutrition programming in humanitarian settings preferred. * Ability to travel at short notice, to remote and insecure locations for up to 60% of work time * Experience of capacity building and mentoring. * Highly developed writing skills including experience in writing proposals and donor reports. * Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties. * Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets. * Experience solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in. * Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner. * Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies. * Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required. Somali language an advantage
This role will be offered as a 24 months fixed term contract with possibility of extension
