ActionAid Burundi is looking for a professional with strong
skills in programming, campaigning, participatory methods and human rights
based approaches to support ActionAid staff and her partner organisations. The
position is roving and the Advisor is thus expected to support an additional 1
to 2 other countries in the Great Lakes region after the 1st year of
placement. Competence in French language is a must for this
position.
The Human Rights Based Approach Advisor
(HRBA) is placed through ActionAid Denmark’s People4Change program; with the
aim of providing capacity development support to ActionAid Nicaragua and her
partner organisations’. ActionAid Burundi is an International NGO working in
Development and Humanitarian sectors. It started work in Burundi in 1976 and
currently works at the national and community level. It is implementing its
programs in 5 Local Rights Program through several partners. Since 2013 AA
Burundi has its new CSP and is working on 3 priorities which are namely:
Sustainable agriculture for women; Quality public education and youth
leadership and; Participation of the poor and marginalized to demand
transparency and accountability.
The HRBA Advisor will occasionally liaise with the ActionAid
International HRBA Programme Support Unit with regards to HRBA conceptual and
knowledge-sharing, programming and methodological aspects in her/his capacity
development work.

Key result areas:
- Train
partners in HRBA components program design, monitoring and evaluation and
link these to empowerment, solidarity work and campaign at Local right to
national level.
- Empower
selected staff and partner organizations with skills on how to design and
implement the Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) in programming with
particular focus on participatory methodologies.
- Organize
workshops focusing on campaign tools and tactics and support the
development of advocacy and campaign plans for ActionAid Burundi and its
partners.
- Guide
the programme staff to develop partnership capacity development plans and
guide them in mainstreaming active local networks for ActionAid’s
integrated participatory methodology (Reflection-Action) among partners.
- Train
and support partners to generate stories of change that clearly highlight
ActionAid theory of change and ensure that key learning is documented and
shared with practitioners elsewhere.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s
degree in any of the Social Sciences
- Fluency
in English and French is required
- Must
have skills as a trainer or facilitator
- At
least 6 years of relevant post-graduate work experience
- At
least 4 years’ experience coaching and training on campaign, advocacy and
partnership using Human Rights Based Approaches.

This is a fulltime position of 24 months, with the
possibility for renewal. Contract start is subject to approval of
work permit. The Roving HRBA Advisor is placed through ActionAid
Denmark’s People4Change program; a people-to-people programme providing

organisations. As People4Change is a cross-national program, aiming at building
tolerance, respect and expertise across cultures and borders, this
