qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party,
Programs in Nairobi, Kenya.
Program Description
The anticipated project is a five-year basic education
initiative to improve early grade reading skills in Kenya. The project
will improve reading by strengthening instruction, bolstering reading delivery
systems and fostering meaningful engagement in literacy activities by
communities, the private sector and the general Kenyan public. The
project will also provide technical and policy level support to the Government
of Kenya in the reviewing, revising and implementing reading-related policies.
Position Description:
The Deputy Chief of Party, Programs (DCOP Programs) shall
work under the leadership of the COP and will support the organization in
appropriate technical and coordination aspects of the project.
In addition, the Deputy Chief of Party, Programs shall be
responsible for the following:
- Collaborate
with the Chief of Party to provide leadership to the development and
maintenance of a comprehensive strategy for programming.
- Work
with in-country Technical Advisors and headquarter-based Technical staff
to ensure programs are designed according to FHI 360 and industry best
practices, program framework and regulations.
- Collaborate
with Technical and Program staff to ensure that program implementation is
managed closely through the development and use of structured work plans
and work plan management tools, indicator tracking sheets and approved
monitoring plans.
- Provide
guidance and supervision to Technical and Program staff, who are charged
with implementing programs within assigned areas of expertise.
Minimum Requirements:
The Deputy Chief of Party, Programs (DCOP Programs) shall
have an advance degree in education or social sciences (Master’s degree) from
an accredited university. The DCOP Programs shall have at least ten years of
relevant technical experience in program management in developing countries,
preferably in the implementation of a national scale-up and coordination of
such activities. Additional experience in similar type of programs may be
considered in lieu of an advanced degree. Previous experience in Kenya or East
Africa with knowledge of the Kenyan education system is highly desired. S/he
shall have demonstrated exemplary management, communication, and interpersonal
skills to ensure internal coherence among diverse team members, as well as
relations with the GOK, donors and the international community.
