Roles and responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collection and storage of plant samples for molecular analysis and sequencing
• Perform standard molecular procedures e.g. DNA/RNA extractions, gel electrophoresis, PCR amplifications, nucleic acid quantification, sample preparation for sequencing, operating sequencers, and sequence data analysis
• Updating an information database relevant for AOCC
• Follow and promote best laboratory practices, and help in the preparation and refinement of SOPs
• With the laboratory manager, ensure that all laboratory equipment is in good working order
• Ordering laboratory reagents & consumables in a timely manner
• Analyze research data; prepare progress reports, presentations and contribute to manuscripts for publication in referred journals
• Assist in laboratory and field trainings
• Participate in institutional trainings and seminars
• Conduct other research and reporting activities as directed by AOCC Laboratory Manager
Skill set
Requirements:
• BSc. or MSc. in Molecular Biology, Genetics or Biotechnology
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in in a molecular laboratory
• Good written and spoken English
• Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
• Computer literacy in MS Office
