The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks
to recruit a Senior Human Resource Assistant–Learning & Development who
will be a member of the Human Resources team
in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
General: The International Livestock Research
Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing
high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on
poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 research
centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural
Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with
other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, and
Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos,

Job Purpose:
The Senior Human Resource Assistant – Learning &
Development is responsible to follow up and support the process of group
induction, performance management and training & development initiatives.
Key duties & responsibilities:
Induction:
• Coordinates inductions for nationally and internationally recruited staff for ILRI-Ethiopia and hosted institutes,
• Organizes and schedules group inductions for new staff in Ethiopia,
• Conducts induction, evaluation and assessments for newly ( both international & national) recruited staff,
• Acts as the focal point for all staff induction related issues.
• Coordinates inductions for nationally and internationally recruited staff for ILRI-Ethiopia and hosted institutes,
• Organizes and schedules group inductions for new staff in Ethiopia,
• Conducts induction, evaluation and assessments for newly ( both international & national) recruited staff,
• Acts as the focal point for all staff induction related issues.
Learning & Development:
• Coordinates all logistics for group training including organising materials, meeting rooms, following up on training attendance etc.,
• Collates evaluation forms and prepares training reports from the Learning & Development programmes and initiatives in Addis,
• Processes payment requests for ILRI-sponsored training and submits for approval,
• Coordinates travel logistics for training facilitators and the Learning & Development team,
• Collates learning needs from staff performance development plans and shares with the Human Resources Officer in Addis for analysis,
• Develops and updates a database for appropriate training providers, coaches, mentors and individual training consultants,
• Processes all staff learning applications including ensuring the training forms are duly filled and submitted,
• Liaises with training providers in the design of training courses and programmes necessary to meet training needs, or supports this activity via other internal and/or external provider(s),
• Coordinates group training initiatives that ensure efficient training attendance and delivery,
• Implements ILRI management development programme initiatives including effectively tracking the coaching programmes, preparing feedback evaluation reports, tracking agreed action plans,
• Inducts new staff on eLearning platform and e Performance management,
• Contributes to the design and update of the ILRI Learning and Development Directory,
• Processes and organizes staff development fund requests in line with the procedure.

improvement plans and probation reviews and ensures that these are filed in the
staff personal files,
• Prepares ILRI Addis submission audit reports for performance documents and shares these reports with the Human Resources Officer and Learning & Development Team,
• Alerts supervisors and staff about performance management timelines and provides appropriate support,
• Maintains accurate and up to date staff training and performance management records,
• Ensures that new staff information is updated on the online performance management system,
• Follows up with supervisors on probation reviews and facilitates issuance of confirmation letters,
• Conducts quality checks on Key Result Areas and appraisals submitted and liaises with supervisors as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
Education:
• Holder of First Degree in Human
Resource, Organisational Development, Business management or any other related
discipline
Experience:
• At least 5 years’ relevant work experience in a busy HR unit or Learning & Development unit
• At least 5 years’ relevant work experience in a busy HR unit or Learning & Development unit

Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Grade: 2D
Minimum Base: Birr 16,945 (Negotiable, depending on
experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited
Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for two years with the possibility
of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of
funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in
Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical
insurance, offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure,
attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Dining and sports
facilities are located on site.
