ILRI seeks to recruit a Research Technician – Gender to
provide research support to the Gender Team at ILRI through data collection and
analysis, synthesizing research findings related to gender and value chains,
and writing reports.
ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways
out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium, a global
research partnership of 15 centers working with many partners for a food-secure
future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in West and
southern Africa and South and Southeast Asia. www.ilri.org.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and
research is conducted in 31 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are
supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
(CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

Responsibilities
- Contribute
to the implementation and reporting of research on gender and livestock;
- Contribute
to the development of approaches and tools for integrating gender within
ILRI;
- Provide
support to multiple projects to integrate gender in project design,
implementation, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment;
- Contribute
to the development and testing of poverty, gender and equity indicators
for monitoring and evaluating livestock research and development projects;
- Carry
out field research by utilising a variety of qualitative and quantitative
methods
- Conduct
literature review focused on gender and agriculture/livestock;
- Analyze
the contribution of projects to improving women’s economic and social
empowerment including increasing their access to assets, technologies and
services;
- Contribute
to preparation of peer reviewed articles, research reports, briefs and
other communication products including gender checklists and research
materials for website content and publication.
Requirements
- MSc
in Agricultural or Development Economics, Research Methods, Social
sciences or a related discipline;
- At
least 2 years’ experience in collecting, analysing and summarizing gender
research into publications;
- Familiarity
with gender and livestock system issues and challenges;
- Good
analytical skills and experience of using packages for data analysis
(SPSS, STATA, R, Nvivo or similar);
- Experience
in producing project reports, training manuals and peer-reviewed
publications;
- Ability
to work effectively in multi-regional teams and partners with members
drawn from a diverse range of nationalities, cultures and scientific
disciplines;
- Ability
to work under pressure, often to tight deadlines without compromising the
quality of deliverables;
- Ability
to prioritize tasks and to work with little or no supervision;
- Experience
in informal and formal capacity development of colleagues and partners;
- Strong
English language skills, both written and spoken (proficiency in a second
language, Spanish or French, is an advantage);
- Willingness
to travel frequently, often to rural areas in developing countries.
Terms of appointment:
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions based
at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is for a 2 years’ contract period.
Job level and salary:
This position is job level 2C with a starting salary of
KES116, 417 per month. In addition to salary, ILRI offers Medical
insurance for the staff and dependents, Life insurance, Pension at 12.5%
employers contribution, Annual holiday entitlement of 30 days+ public holidays
within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme.
