Rwanda Country Manager - Bridges to Prosperity



Location: Kigali, Rwanda
 
The Rwanda Program Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the B2P Rwanda Program and planning program growth in accordance with Bridges to Prosperity’s Mission. In addition to overseeing bridge-building operations, the Rwanda Program Manager is responsible for building the capacity of Rwandans in the academic and government sectors to build footbridges without direct support from B2P.
Country Manager splits time between field management and capital based administration.  On site lodging is similar to local standards with limited electricity and running water, lodging in the capital arranged by the Country Manager. Country Manager must thrive in an independent and sometimes isolated work environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration

  •        Accounting – weekly expense reports, annual program budget
  •        Develop/update country specific strategic plan
  •        Attend rural infrastructure coordination meetings and represent B2P in other relevant forums.
  •        Funding – seek out NGO partnerships and Bi-lateral Program funding
  •        Grant Management – assure appropriate and timely spending of grants and compile project reports
  •        Media – Write media updates and supply B2P Communications Manager with material for social media campaigns and other PR documents.
  •        Manage local staff

Bridge Building

  • Foster an open and enthusiastic work environment with team members, promoting strong team spirit to enable staff to be successful in the field.
  • Site Identification – Work with local and national government to identify high need bridge sites throughout Rwanda.
  • Site Selection – Perform technical and social feasibility and make collaboration agreement with beneficiaries
  • Design – prepare preliminary designs and interface with Technical Advisory Board to address challenges
  • Site preparation, Construction, and Quality Control – Oversee Construction Manager throughout entire life of bridge project.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation – Oversee collection of baseline crossing data before bridge construction and gather information about bridge usage after project completion.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of building materials, equipment, and other supplies for all bridge projects.

Capacity Building

  • Train local masons in suspended and suspension bridge construction techniques and processes
  • Identify and certify Construction Managers
  • Local Government –Organize design training workshops with local institutions to train and certify engineers in design and quality control process
  • Local University – Work with local educational institutions to hold training workshops and identify local interns to work with

Visitors

  • Arrange logistics for corporate teams, university teams and interns

REQUIREMENTS


- University degree in engineering, international development, or related field;
- Technical experience in construction, engineering or equivalent;
- Solid managerial skills and experience in an international multi-cultural setting;
- Strong project planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Self-starting independent worker
- Competent in Windows, MS office programs, email and database experience.
- Work experience in a developing country preferred.
