As a Project Officer with African Initiatives, you will be
an integral part of a small team with a full and varied role. African
Initiatives was recently awarded a five-year Grant by Comic Relief. The Equal
Rights project aims to transform the education of girls and boys in Tanzania.
The project (2014-2019) is designed to bring about lasting change in six
districts in northern Tanzania - Ngorongoro, Monduli, Longido, Karatu, Mbulu
and Kilolo.
Funded by Comic Relief, the project is managed by African
Initiatives (AI) and implemented in partnership with the Pastoral Women’s
Council (PWC), Community Aid and Small Enterprises Consultancy (CASEC) and
Community Research and Development Services (CORDS). Together, we work with
parents, schools, ward development committees and district education
authorities.
The project is working in 44 government primary schools and
26 government ward based secondary schools. The project looks to increase
access and retention to schools, improve achievement at Standard VII, Form 2
and Form 4 national examinations, increased security in schools, increased
participation of students and parents in the governance of their schools, and
increased transition between participating primary and secondary schools.
The Project Officer (PO) will support African Initiative’s
Overseas Programme Manager (OPM) in project delivery, with particular focus on:

- Ensuring
project synergy between the four partners (PWC; CASEC; CORDS; AI);
- Supporting
partners in implementing the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
framework;
- Strengthening
organisational capacity.
