Job Description
Function:
The main purpose of the Project Coordinator is to oversee
the implementation of the PASIFIK project covering the 7 Dairy Farmers Business
Associations (DFBAs) in North Rift, South Rift and Central targeting at least
10,000 farmers over the project period. The role is responsible for planning,
implementation, resource management, monitoring & evaluation, financial
control, associated stakeholder and partner relationship management and timely
quality reporting.
The role will involve working closely with seven Dairy
Farmers Business Associations and their extension departments and personnel in
creating awareness to stimulate farmers’ use of soil and feed testing and
analysis for target of 10,000 farmers.
The Coordinator will work in close partnership with Soil
Cares, Agri-quest and the management and boards of the DFBAs in
delivering relevant farmer training programs and coordinating the analysis and
feedback on soil and feed testing.
The Coordinator will liaise closely with the relevant
government departments and extension personnel to coordinate the awareness
campaign and also stimulate private sector awareness and interest in the soil
testing services.
The Coordinator will also undertake the field Monitoring and
Evaluation activities including baseline data collection, regular monthly and
quarterly project reporting and the final project evaluation.
The Coordinator will ensure the relevant integration of the
soil and feed testing process into the EADD activities to achieve synergy and
the project goals of increasing income and production amongst the target
farmers.
Responsibilities:
- Awareness
creation and publicity.
Plan and affectively undertake all the project awareness
activities around soil and feed testing with boards, DFBA extension staff,
governments and farmers.
- Training
of extension staff.
Coordinate and ensure the effective training of model
farmers, DFBA extension staff and farmers in all aspects of soil testing, feed
testing and soil fertility and compost and the application of fertilizer.
- Establishing
and managing and extension infrastructure.
Establish through the 7 target DFBAs and effective extension
infrastructure with an appropriate reward mechanism to ensure 10,000 soil and
feed tests by 10,000 farmers are undertaken.
- Collaboration
and partnership.
Establish and maintain and close collaboration and
partnership with Soil Cares, Agri-quest to coordinate successful farmer
trainings and soil testing in the catchment of all the 7
DFBAs. Coordinating collaborative activities including attending meetings,
workshops and seminars, hosting workshops.
- Annual
planning and budgeting.
Develop quarterly and annual work plans and budgets for the
project and ensure that the plans are clear on how to monitor the budgets and
work plans to ensure project spending and implementation are on track.
- Monitoring
and Evaluation.
Facilitate monitoring and evaluations of project results and
processes and ensure that quality standards are adhered to. Support
reflection and learning among partners, project and decision makers to identify
and document key lessons learnt. Lead the field data collection processes
for the baseline, mid- term reviews and final evaluations and any impact
assessment studies.
- Project
reporting.
Produce timely and accurate project reports, at regular
monthly, quarterly and annual and biennial as per the project donor contract
and HIK requirements .
- Improving
visibility of HPI
Contribute to documentation of programme
results/impacts/learnings for programme and policy oriented
publications. Organizing, planning and facilitating functions such as
field days, exhibitions, case studies, participating and facilitating in
stakeholder and development meetings and workshops
- Any
other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Skills
Minimum requirements:
- Degree
in management related issues; community development or other equivalent
qualifications plus post graduate qualifications desirable in a relevant
professional discipline.
- 7
years relevant experience in community development/child
protection/education/gender work, with minimum of 4 years at a
supervisory/ managerial level.
- Thorough
knowledge of programming processes, systems and principles, and the
ability to provide leadership and support to staff working at community
level.
- Sound
understanding of integrated development issues and critical analysis of
child poverty.
- Knowledge
of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and
implications to community development.
- Demonstrated
knowledge of strategic planning processes.
Most Critical Proficiencies:
- Knowledge
annual work planning and budgeting and budget monitoring.
- A
good understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Solid
project reporting skill.
- A
good understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty,
hunger and environment, and knowledge of the context to which non-profit
organizations operate.
- Solid
knowledge and experience in extension methodologies.
- Knowledge
and experience in training and participatory training methodologies.
- Team
leadership skills.
- Excellent
organizational skills.
- Proficient
knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic
mail (Microsoft Office preferred) and Internet.
- Demonstrated
proficiency in English and Swahili, both oral and written.
