Overall Responsibilities
The Principal Technical Advisor (OVC services) will provide
support and technical assistance aimed at improving the lives of children and
families affected by HIV and AIDS. The emphasis of the role of the Principal
Technical Advisor (OVC services) is to provide guidance and support to mobilize
and support community-based responses that will improve the delivery of
services to OVC and strengthen systems to ensure sustainable services delivery
and protection of OVC particularly female adolescent OVC.
Specific Responsibilities
- The
Principal Technical Advisor (OVC services) will assist in identifying,
locating and protecting OVC and providing both immediate and long-term
therapeutic and social economic assistance to vulnerable household by
providing:
- Support
to integrate strategies to reduce stigma and discrimination.
- Improved
delivery of services through a family centred and community based model.
- Provide
assistance to OVC in acquiring the skills and knowledge to protect them
from HIV infection.
- Strengthened
networks, systems and leveraging wrap-around programs for OVC.
- The AD
OVC services will work with the Ministry of Women and Social Development
counterparts, USAID Cooperating Agencies and other partners in the public
and private sectors. S/he will ensure that the technical contents and
quality necessary for the National Health System to support the
decentralised system and to achieve an effective implementation of
appropriate interventions at the national, state, district and local
levels.
- Any
other duties assigned by Chief of Party
- Mentor
Senior Program Officers to provide support to the state, LGA and CSOs to
enable quality holistic OVC services at community level
- Collate
and summarize quarterly reports of activities executed in the states and
submit to the Chief of Party
- Forecast
and request for Basic Care Kits from Africare, and ensure suitable
distribution.
- Collaborate
with service providers in the 6+1 OVC service areas to ensure that OVC and
caregivers have access to needed services
- Identify
Barriers to OVC care and proffer solutions to these challenges
Qualifications
- Masters
degree or equivalent experience in Public Health or related field.
- Expertise
in OVC program design, implementation, management, public health
interventions and diseases control.
- Experience
in developing relationships with provincial and district levels government
officials
- Minimum
of 8 years of experience in HIV/AIDS, TB, STI and/or Child Survival/IMCI
projects in African countries, preferably Nigeria.
- Knowledge
and understanding of the paediatric home-based care, gender, stigma and
discrimination.
- Ability
to work independently.
- Willingness
to travel extensively.
