centerpiece of Research Triangle Park. RTI International is currently seeking
qualified applicants to fill the position of Senior IT Specialist, for the TZ Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS)
Project, part of a large regional support program funded by the US President
Malaria Initiative (PMI) through USAID. This position will be based in Dar es
Salaam Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Windows-based computers, laptops, and server.
Ensure Windows and other computer software is maintained and
that patches are promptly applied. (also supporting more windows based servers
that have been currently installed in lake zone)
Ensure that anti-virus software is installed on all
computers and servers, running regularly and kept current.
Ensure that information is backed up in accordance with RTI
policies and procedures
Provide user support
Maintain spare parts and perform hardware repairs and
restoration
Maintaining network infrastructure including ISP, router,
Ethernet switch, printers, PABX and VolP
Perform routine Moves, adds, and changes Monitor network
performance
Perform and/or coordinate repairs
Report outages and status of repairs
Perform scheduled servicing and maintenance of computers and
ICT equipment
Maintain documentation on IT inventory, service providers,
ISPs, and maintenance contracts.
Assisting with procurement of IT equipment in multiple
countries
Supervise IT service providers in Dar es Salaam and across
other Tanzania and Zanzibar areas
Ensure compliance with RTI Information Security policies,
procedures and standards.
Provide oversight and management to junior level IT Support
staff based within the Tanzania Malaria Control Program.
Supervise IT Assistant, especially helping out with windows
installations, servicing equipments, doing manual backups to the areas with no
servers, normal upgrades or updates and covering me up when am on leave or
travelled.
Oversee Malaria Epidemic Earlv Detection System (MEEDS) and
Geographical Epidemiology Outbreak Monitoring (GEOM) IT related components
Oversee Malaria surveillance system in Zanzibar (IT related
Components) and support the data collection devices (tablets)
Data Based management for all entomological and IRS
activities.
Other assignments as assigned by the Director of Finance and
Administration (DFA) or Chief of Party (COP) or Technical Director (TD).
Required qualifications and Experience:
A minimum of Bachelor Degree in IT with 10 years of
professional working experience, or Master Degree with 6 years of experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
An understanding of and commitment to RTI's mission and

materials and sensitive issues.
Ability to answer most inquiries and questions independently
and follow up on requests in an efficient manner.
Ability to resolve problem situations is a tactful and
effective communicator, both orally and in writing, ability to deal with
persons of diverse cultures.
Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures
as well as the ability to apply them with consistency in a variety of
circumstances.
Ability to function independently and carry out routine
responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Experience for setting up information systems and networked
applications and office automation systems.
Knowledge of hardware/software installation and ability to
make minor adjustments to equipment.
Ability to monitor progress of a project against milestones
or deadlines double-checks the accuracy of information to discover weakness or missing
data and strive for high quality performance.
Knowledge of ethical, social and legal issues related to information
systems. .
Supervisory experience and Country experience is desired.
Training, facilitation and Capacity building skills and interest in developing
co-workers to limit user support in the project.
Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Excellent English and Swahili written and verbal
communication skills.
Tanzanian nationals or candidates with extensive work
experience in Tanzania will be preferred.
