Youth Livelihoods Advisor

The role
As a member of a project team, the Youth Livelihoods Advisor (YLA) will provide technical assistance to Save the Children Burkina Faso as they deliver a five-year Children Lead the Way (CLW) project, funded by Save the Children Canada (SCC) and the Government of Canada. The Children Lead the Way project aims to promote education, protection, development and participation of children and youth who work, particularly in the agriculture, domestic and artisanal mining sectors in four regions in Burkina Faso.
The YLA will have primary responsibility for:
  • The development of content and approaches to guide the Country Office in their implementation of youth livelihoods activities with a focus on available employment sectors
  • Capacity building with Country Office and partners
  • Support for M&E, learning and documentation related to livelihoods
  • Effective partnerhsip, representation and outreach with key stakeholder bodies: host government offices, regional government bodies such as ECOWAS
  • Coordination within the CLW team and with Save the Children Canada
  • Coordination within the CLW team and with Save the Children Canada

Qualifications and experience
  • Advanced degree in international development, livelihoods, youth employment or related field
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years experience managing and / or providing technical support to youth livelihoods programming
  • Experience working in collaborative work settings
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and cross cultural skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Commitment to learning, knowledge building and participatory processes.
  • Knowledge of West Africa context
  • Superior language skills (oral, written, and comprehension) - French and English required
  • Experience with research and evaluation
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and MS Outlook
