Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through
health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

IMC has been implementing USAID Food for Peace development programs (MYAPs) since 2008. The first was a MYAP in partnership with CRS from 2008-2012. The second is an on-going MYAP in partnership with CRS, Food for the Hungry and Caritas Burundi that began in 2009 and will end in 2014. This consultancy will support the development of the next USAID FFP development program (DFAP) that is scheduled to start in 2014.

JOB SUMMARY
Consultant will serve as the health and nutrition technical representative to the IMC Burundi team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically, the consultant will complete the following tasks:

- Desk review of: previous IMC Burundi documents (MYAP final evaluation, MYAP Impact Assessment Report, Tubaramure PM2A program proposal and mid-term evaluation report), USAID Burundi Country Strategy Framework, USAID FFP Title II RFA guidelines, USAID Commodity Reference Guide and IMC commodity calculator spreadsheets and related notes, USAID Title II PM2A Technical Reference Materials, FAFSA II recommendations, Nutrition Program Design Assistant (NPDA) assessment tool, Care Group manual, Positive Deviance/Hearth manual, and national protocols for PD/H, CHWs, PNDS, CMAM, SGBV, CSLP II.
- Attend proposal pre-design and design workshop(s) in-country
- Conduct site visits and collection of necessary field data to complete the NPDA assessment tool and gather any other assessment related information
- In partnership with IMC Burundi team, design a strategic approach to the DFAP proposal
- Contribute to Development Innovations/desk design of program organizational structure and assist in designing job descriptions for technical roles
- Assist in local partnership strategy, if any
- Contribute to budget design to ensure complete comparability with technical design
- Work closely with M&E SME to design PMP section of proposal
- Represent IMC at ministerial and other stakeholder meetings needed in technical design in Burundi
- Debrief with the Senior Development Nutritionist at the beginning of the contract and at the end
- Write a case study of a successful component of how the former MYAP or Tubaramure PM2A program has influenced national policy and/or other strategic developments; focus to be determined with NFS team
- Report regularly to Miel Hendrickson, Development Innovations Team Leader
