Chief of Party- Current Rwanda FtF-Funded Rural Development Program



Global Communities, formerly CHF International, is an international non-profit organization that works closely with communities worldwide to bring about sustainable changes that improve the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable.

Global Communities seeks a Chief of Party for our current USAID Feed the Future (FtF)-funded Ejo Heza, (Brighter Future in Kinyarwanda) program, is a five-year project running from 2011 to 2016.

The overarching objective of the program is to improve the livelihoods and food/nutrition consumption of Rwanda’s rural poor (75,000) especially women by building sustainable linkages to financial services, inputs, markets and information, all of which drive economic opportunity in rural areas.

The Chief of Party will be primarily responsible for overall partnerships for the program, ensuring smooth implementation of work plan activities.  The COP and senior management team will have responsibility for linkages to Rwanda Partner Organizations (RPOs) and program implementation to ensure monitoring, technical quality of program interventions, and accountability.  Tools to be used to ensure this include not only regular coordination events, but also work plans and regular monitoring visits. This team will collaborate closely with RPOs in partnership with district officials and local authorities, and will provide oversight to ensure strong, sustainable linkages.

The COP’s background should include:
  • Demonstrated expertise as a chief-of-party with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing large (at least $10 million), complex USAID agricultural or rural development programs with a value chain growth focus, preferably within an African context;
  • Experience leading collaborative efforts with multiple stakeholders—i.e., between other USAID and FtF recipients, INGOs, Local NGOs and GoR.
  • A successful track record in policy analysis and dialogue with host country governments
  • The ability to be collaborative across projects, flexible and creative; and
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, NGOs, research institutions).
