The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) http://www.ciat.cgiar.org seeks
to recruit a Research Officer, to be based at its Ethiopia Country Office in
Addis Ababa located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)
campus.
General: CIAT is one of the 15 non-profit centers that
are members of the CGIAR Consortium. This global research partnership operates
primarily through CGIAR Research Programs, CRPs, which are designed to deliver
tangible benefits for the rural poor on a large scale. Within this framework,
CIAT participates actively in the CGIAR Policies, Institutions and Markets
(PIM) Research Program, to which the market access specialist position is
connected (www.pim.cgiar.org).
Responsibilities:
- Develops
data collection protocols within CIAT projects in Ethiopia such as Africa
RISING,
- Establishes
and/or supervises field level agronomic trials and socio-economic surveys,
- Collects
and quality controls data from plot and landscape levels in Ethiopia,
including surveys,
- Analyzes
data emanates from the implemented activities, drafts publications, and
makes presentations where needed,
- Represents
CIAT in project meetings and other fora,
- Assists
the Soils Program in management of public awareness events and generating
appropriate communications materials to reflect the work of the program
and its partners in Ethiopia,
- Works
with CIAT-Nairobi corporate services staff in managing all the general
administrative issues of the office,
- Any
other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
Requirements:
Education:

• MSc degree in Agriculture, Soil Science
or a relevant first degree plus a relevant post graduate qualification.
Experience:
• At least 5 years of relevant work
experience
• Experience in field work and interacting with the agricultural scientific research community

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
- Conversant
with statistical tools to analyze large datasets
- Team
player with ability to work effectively in a highly dynamic,
trans-disciplinary and multi-cultural team across institutions and levels
of authority

Minimum Base salary:
• Birr 27,556 per month (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is for two years
renewable appointment based on performance and funding availability. CIAT
