General: IFPRI is one of the international agricultural
research institutes organized under the CGIAR

The position: The International Food Policy Research
Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire Accountant for its Eastern and Southern Africa
Regional Office (ESARO) Division in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Main Duties:
The primary responsibility of the Accountant will be to
prepare IFPRI-ESARO budgets, facilitates payments at training events and for
staff travel, prepares financial reports, handles petty cash and record
expenditures.
Detailed responsibilities:
- Ensures
that the division’s expenditure is fully compliant and in compliance with
IFPRI policies and procedures;
- Ensures
that all project financial data are kept up to date and that the IFPRI
Head Quarter gets accurate and timely reports;
- Prepares
budget for ESARO and liaises with different researchers in the office in
order to coordinate preparation of project budgets;
- Assists
in the preparation of collaborator contracts;
- Assists
with applications for tax and duty exemptions, when applicable;
- Prepares
vouchers for approval by ensuring that all the necessary documents are
attached and verifies source documents for completeness, authenticity and
arithmetic accuracy;
- Provides
accurate coding at transaction level to ensure that expenditure monitoring
is accurate and data is captured in the right cost and sub cost centers;
- Ensures
all payments for supplies and services are made promptly;
- Handles
ESARO petty cash;
- Any
other responsibilities that will be assigned by supervisor and / or
management.
Minimum Requirements
Education:• BA Degree in Accounting
Experience:
• At least five (5) years practical experience with a reputable organization

Training:
• ACCA completion is an added value
• ACCA completion is an added value
Skills:
• High computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Accounting Software)
• Good written and oral communication in English language
• Integrity and capacity to keep confidential information

• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural organization
• Initiative and ability to respond creatively to analytical challenges

fixed term, renewable appointment based on performance and funding
