Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites
applications for the position of a Intermediate Auditor.
IITA is an international nonprofit
research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a
Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of
International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the
development needs of sub-Saharan Africa . We
develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty
by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and
productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100
internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally

Responsibilities:
The
Intermediate Auditor will contribute to the
achievement of the internal audit goal of the Institute ensuring all key risks
are covered. The position provides a variety of audit and related
support activities under the guidance and supervision of the Head, Internal
Audit based at headquarters. This would
include assurance and consulting services in the areas of risk management,
control and governance designed to safeguard resources and ensure operating
efficiency. Selected candidate would
oversee Institute stations and donor funded projects located across various
countries in Eastern and Southern Africa and reports on financial and
operational activities reviewed with cost effective recommendations to address
weaknesses observed. Responsibilities include:
1.
Development of a risk based
audit plan for stations and projects based in the East and Southern
Africa region.
2.
Implementation
of the plan developed including conducting operational and financial audits and
conducting special examination as may be requested.
3.
Development
and updating of audit work programs
4.
Proper
identification and articulation of issues from reviews carried out and promptly
reporting on relevant and emerging risks.
5.
Preparation
of properly referenced and cross referenced audit working paper files
6.
Preparation of draft audit
reports
Duty
Station: Dar es salaam - Tanzania
Qualifications/Experience: The
successful candidate would be either a newly qualified accountant (CPA) or an
experienced accountant looking to move into a role in an agricultural research
environment as well as have some previous Internal Audit experience.

A university degree in
Accounting or other related business courses.
·
Professional audit
qualifications such as CIA, CPA, etc.
·
3-5years experience in auditing
or a combination of audit and finance skills.
·
Sound knowledge of computer
softwares.

candidate must be prepared to work alone or in a team.

Practical accounting and audit
skills
·
Working knowledge of accounting
softwares such as Oracle, Platinum-sage, Agresso etc.

Good investigative skills
·
Ability to review a variety of
reports and data and to identify discrepancy and resolve problems.
·
Ability to perform and
recognize and maintain required level of confidentiality.
·
Willingness to and/or good
knowledge of relevant accounting and administrative laws of various countries
in the region.
·
Ability to provide input to
operating personnel on operating efficiency and controls
·
Fluency in English Language
