Position Summary
Futures Group is hiring a Deputy Chief of Party/Director of Social Marketing (DCOP/DSM) for an upcoming USAID-funded health project in Zambia. The Deputy Chief of Party/Director of Social Marketing will be key personnel to this project. It will be his/her responsibility to build and manage the social marketing component of the project, increasing access to and use of health commodities and select health services. He/She will lead a team of Social Marketing Managers, and research, warehouse and sales/distribution professionals to expand the supply, diversity and use of socially marketed health products in Zambia. Reporting to the Chief of Party, the Deputy Chief of Party/Director of Social Marketing will oversee the design and execution of a strategy that will inform different aspects of the project – including product marketing and sales, supply chain management, sustainability strategies for select products, co-marketing of products and services and other areas to be identified.  

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish operations and logistics for of a social marketing project – including product supply, distribution relationships, point of sale mapping and relationships, recruiting and hiring of staff and other areas necessary for efficient start-up of a social marketing program.
  • Negotiate and execute the transition of existing brands from USAID’s previous partner as necessary.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a sustainability strategy for select socially marketed products and services.
  • Liaise with local government officials, project partners and beneficiaries to ensure achievement of project goals related to social marketing and behavior change communications
  • Oversee research and coordination related to a total market approach including market segmentation and coordination with government and private commercial stakeholders to health products and service delivery.
  • Design strategies for nontraditional distribution of products
  • Implement use of innovative technologies for efficient management and communication with various partners
  • Oversee two Social Marketing Managers and Sales Distribution Staff, ensuring activities are carried through to completion

Qualifications (required & preferred)
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferred graduate level degree, in business, management or related field, marketing, social science, etc.
  • Minimum eight years of progressively responsible experience in management, preferably in Zambia.
  • Minimum three years of experience managing social marketing components for USAID projects.
  • The ability to conceive and execute complex strategies in collaboration with local and international partner organizations.
  • Experience with a total market approach for the marketing and distribution of health products and services.
  • Strong experience with the application of consumer research data, sales data and other information to improve ongoing programming and operations.
  • Proficiency in English at minimum USG FSI-III level or equivalent required. Proficiency must be sufficient to lead the writing of high quality research reports for dissemination to USAID and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mentoring and capacity-building skills.
  • Only Zambian nationals will be considered.
