qualified candidates for the position of Project Manager I, Private
Sector Development Specialist in Nairobi, Kenya.
Program Description
The anticipated project is a five-year basic education
initiative to improve early grade reading skills in Kenya. The project
will improve reading by strengthening instruction, bolstering reading delivery
systems and fostering meaningful engagement in literacy activities by
communities, the private sector and the general Kenyan public. The
project will also provide technical and policy level support to the Government
of Kenya in the reviewing, revising and implementing reading-related policies.
Position Description:
The Project Manager I, Private Sector Development Specialist
will be responsible for the private sector development fund (consisting of a
minimum $2 million) and utilize it to leverage private sector support for
quality education, in particular improved reading skills, and inculcating a
reading culture within Kenya.
In addition, the Project Manager I, Private Sector
Development Specialist shall be responsible for the following:
- Develop
and execute a private sector engagement strategy that aims to maximize the
potential the private sector has in improving reading achievement in
primary schools throughout Kenya
- Work
closely with Chief of Party to ensure efficient use of project funds and
effective strategy so as to fulfill desired objectives of the program
- Work
collaboratively with institutional and private partners and stakeholders
in Kenya to extend awareness of the importance of improving reading skills
- Implement
activities designed to leverage private investments to support development
goals
- Explore
options for private sector financial and in-kind contributions, such as
classroom materials
- Identify
and pursue high-potential business ideas capable of improving reading
achievement
- Facilitate
and encourage greater private sector engagement at local and national
levels
Minimum Requirements:
The Project Manager I, Private Sector Development Specialist
shall have an advanced degree in business administration, economics, political
science, or another related field from an accredited university. Five years of
relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The Private
Sector Development Specialist shall have a proven ability to identify
high-potential business ideas, demonstrated experience working collaboratively
with institutional and private partners and stakeholders in Kenya, and
experience implementing activities designed to leverage private investments to
support development goals. S/he shall have demonstrated exemplary communication
and interpersonal skills.
