General: ICARDA
is one of the international agricultural research institutes organized under
the umbrella of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
(CGIAR). The global mandate of ICARDA is to work on food crops, small
ruminants (sheep and goats), rangelands, water and soil management, and related
socio-economic and policy issues. ICARDA’s mandate covers non-tropical dry
areas in developing countries.
The position: International Center for Agricultural
Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) seeks to hire a National Project Coordinator
who is expected to coordinate the ADA funded project to be implemented in
Amhara region based in Debre Berhan Agricultural Research Centre and who will
be a member of ICARDA.
Main Duties:
- Over
all coordination of ADA funded project to be implemented in Amhara region
based in Debre Berhan Agricultural Research Center
- Annual
project planning and implementing research activities
- Report
writing
- Training
of farmers, researchers and extension personnel
- Organizing
field days and workshops related to the project
- Publication
of flyers, scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and manuals
- Provide
back stopping to National Agriculture Research System (NARS)
- Supervise
driver and graduate students
Minimum academic and professional qualifications, experience
and knowledge required to perform the job effectively
Education:
- The
jobholder requires a relevant PHD
Experience:
- The
jobholder requires at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
Skills:
- On-farm
and on station research on technology validations; data collections,
analyses, interpretations and publications; Statistical software
applications and skills in computer applications (MS word, Excel, Power
point); training of farmers, researchers and extension personnel
Training:
- Crop
Protection, Entomology, Cropping system, Plant Pathology or related fields

Minimum Base salary:
- Birr
27,302 per month (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary
history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is for a two
years, fixed term, renewable appointment based on performance and funding

General:
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads
of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science,
communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and
sustainable development. ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and
Ethiopia, with other offices located in Africa (Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria,
Senegal, Uganda) as well as Asia (China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Sri
Lanka).
The position: ILRI is recruiting a Specialist in
Crop-Livestock Integration for Africa RISING project (http://africa-rising.net). Based in Addis
Ababa who will be a member of the Animal Science for Sustainable Productivity
Program.
Main Duties:
To provide scientific and managerial inputs to the Africa
RISING project in support of the Project Manager.
The main focus of the work will revolve around a
contribution to coordinating the USAID-funded Africa RISING project as well as
participating in establishing the research activities of that project.
Specifically the consultant will assist the Africa RISING programme coordinator
to:
- Establishes
work plans and clarifies partner responsibilities for implementing the
initial diagnostic phase of the project
- Liaises
with CG and national partners to ensure that these plans are implemented
effectively and to time.
- Participates
in and delivers (as appropriate) partner trainings in the use of the tools
employed by the project.
- Participates
in the management of the field research including supervision of the site
coordinators (to be appointed).
- Plans,
with partners, the on-farm action research to be implemented across the
field sites during the 2013 growing season/s.
- Prepares
any reports required by USAID.
- In
addition, finalizes reporting on the UNEP Wollo Project.

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited
Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the
possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the
availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited
staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and
medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
